About the Conference

During the Second Nuclear Security Summit, held in the Republic of Korea in March, 2012, the United States of America, through its Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), pledged to organize the first International Regulators Conference on Nuclear Security. This conference, which was held in December, 2012, was born from the need to organize an international event on nuclear and radiological security for and by Regulators, with a view to increasing the awareness of the importance of a comprehensive national regulatory security programme and to build lasting relationships with counterparts, having responsibilities in nuclear and radiological security.

Four years later, the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council, "Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear" (CSN), organized the Second International Conference of Regulators on Nuclear Security to promote international cooperation in nuclear security. The purpose of this second conference was to enhance international nuclear security capacity building, and to support the implementation of good practices in this area.

Given the relevance of the nuclear and radiological security globally and especially for the African continent, The Moroccan Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security (AMSSNuR) will convene, under the High Patronage of His Majesty the King Mohamed VI, , for the first time ever in Africa, the Third edition of this International Conference, in Marrakech, Morocco, from 1 to 4 October, 2019. It is expected that this effort will further strengthen and sustain national, regional and international cooperation, and enhance capacity building for nuclear security around the world in general and, in Africa, in particular.
